About The Group

Ferndown Drama Group started in 1962 as a section of the now defunct Ferndown Sports Club. It became Ferndown Drama in 1965 and operated as an Evening Institute class with Martin Bellchamber as tutor. Since then the group has grown and produces currently three major productions a year (in October, January and April), with a pantomime every two years. We also hold our yearly stage door patrons evening every June to give budding new directors a chance to direct a 20-50 minute play and we also participate in Acting Festivals. We may also perform for charities if members are available to do this. Our shows are held in the Barrington Theatre, Ferndown with regular rehearsals on Mondays and Wednesdays in the studio there. The group puts on shows of all types of categories including comedy, Drama and thrillers. Currently we have a strong membership (but always welcome new members!) including some of the founder members who are still with the group from when it started.

Its not all about acting! There are regular social events - the last couple of years have have seen skittles evenings, a brewery visit, trips to other shows, and a beetle drive as well as our annual summer barbeque and christmas meals!

We are always on the lookout for people who are interested in the theatre and would like to get involved in the making and running of shows. We cater for people who want to get involved in a specific field of expertise or people who would like to do various roles within the theatre world. Areas available are:
