SCENE ONE REVIEW THIS is another bawdy comedy from Mike Harding and the laughs came thick and fast. The part of Goff played by Dave Oakley started a little tentatively but soon warmed up and his dry wit was delivered brilliantly. I particularly liked his poems! Cathy Williamson as Fiona was convincing as the daughter that emigrated to Australia and her accent never faltered. Steve Hawker’s Irish accent as builder Martin sounded just right and his characterisation was well judged. Dawn Hollington as Kathy enters like a whirlwind and her reactions to her Christmas presents were delightful. We’ve all been there haven’t we, trying to sound grateful for the most naff presents? Chaz Davenport as Crispin made the most of his part, particularly the charades. The very strange neighbours, Chapman (Bob Johnson) and Monica (Enid Rothwell), gave a startling account of their hobby - angel spotting and mating with an alien super-race. These two characters were, for me, the highlight of the evening in fact I am still laughing. The acting was underplayed and perfect.>p> The whole cast worked well together as a team and all performances were well judged and engrossing. I must also say a ‘well done’ to the two little visitors at the end. Lyn Richell |
